On the Anniversary of Imam Zainul Abideen Marthyrdom.
The Battle of Karbela saw the clash of Evil and Saints on the gound of Karbela. Yet that battle also depicts another struggle. The inner struggle of ones soul…
Br. Muhammad Habash from Toronto, Canada
Karbala and Ashura symbolize space and time, respectively, in which any struggle occurs between the forces of truth and falsehood, good and evil, virtue and vice, justice and oppression. While the struggle on the meta-historical planes of Karbala and Ashura has a physical reality, it begins in the very chests of human beings. In there is a Husayn, and in there is a Yazid. And so it is that every day, every being must participate in the sandstorm within the landscape of his or her own soul.
These lectures and discussions will attempt to shed light on the inward and outward struggle, or Jihad al-Akbar and Jihad al-Asghar, as seen through the lens of Islam and with examples from the Qur’an and the lives of the Ahl al-Bayt (a), and in particular that of Imam `Ali Zayn al-`Abideen ibn al-Husayn (a).
Br. Muhammad Habash is an alumnus of the University of Toronto where he completed his Master’s degree in Information Studies. As an undergraduate student, he founded the Thaqalayn Muslim Association in 2001 and presently serves as the Chair of the Thaqalayn Foundation. Currently he works as a Project Manager in the IT Industry.
