Many of us look for ways of getting Hassanats (rewards) in our life. Some of them are easy and others require a great deal of effort but the reward is much higher.

“Short Cuts to Paradise” is a new initiative brought to you by TheMYM.com. Every week, a list of new tips in getting Hassanats will be posted on our website. They are easy to follow and simple enough to share with others.

If you would like to contribute your own short cut, contact us at http://www.themym.com/contact-us/

Sermon for the Holy Month of Ramadhan

By Dr. Ali Hilli
Ramadhan Mubarak to all of you and your family.  I ask Allah swt to accept our a’amal in this holy month and keep us in the right path inshallah.
As I read prophet Muhammed’s sermon for the holy month of Ramadhan, I was reminded by the many practical and realistic actions that we can take during this month, even with our hectic lifestyle.  So, I’ve put down a quick summary in plain English of the practical points we can take from this wonderful sermon.  I always fear that Ramadhan is becoming systematic and we’re not appreciating fully what this month can provide.
This is just a summary and by no way comprehensive. I’ve chosen some of the points and highlighted them. The points in blue are the summary points from the sermon and the grey are small comments. Please dont forget me in your duaa.

Note:

The holy month of Ramadhan:

-          is the greatest month

-          its days are the best days

-          its hours are the best hours

-          and nights are  the best of nights

So:

·         Our dua is accepted only if:

o   Our intentions are sincere

o   Our heart is pure (free from sins and evils)

·         Raise your hands at the time of  every salah and ask Allah swt whatever you like

o   As this is the best time for asking His mercy.

o   He will answer if we call Him

o   While fasting, remember the hunger and thirst of tomorrow in the Hereafter

·         Give to charity

Ø  Whenever we wake up or leave the house, give to charity

Ø  Mostly, give to orphan charities

·         Visit relatives – Allah will bestow His mercy on you in the Hereafter

Ø  Even if its for a few minutes, especially those that you may have a bad relationship with.

o   However, if you break your relationship with your relative in this month, Allah will keep you away from His mercy.

·         Guard your tongues against unworthy words and improve your akhlaq (manners).

·         Guard your eyes from scenes that are forbidden

Ø  Dont look at the other sex with lust.

Ø  You must look down if you know you are weak.

·         Guard your ears from sounds that are forbidden

·         Spend a longer time prostrating to Allah (SWT)

·         Invite people for iftar, even if its for some dates and water

o    Allah will forgive you your sins inshallah

·        Try to constantly recite the salawat

THE REWARDS OF VOLUNTEERING

THE REWARDS OF VOLUNTEERING

Volunteering not only works for those receiving help but also those who do different kinds of volunteering acts. Truth be told, when faced with the question of Why Is Volunteering Important; there are many reasons why it is beneficial to all concerned.

Firstly, when we volunteer our time for a good cause; the rewards we reap are far greater than any promotion we could get from work; or good grades we get from school.

People who volunteer can’t help but feel just a little bit more positive about life. When we see the dire straits of others; we feel lucky and blessed to have a better life.

Another reason on Why Is Volunteering Important is that we imbibe in others the spirit of generosity – of giving back to others; even strangers, all the good things we have received in life.

Volunteer is What Imam Hussein emulated, sacrifice was his path…

Short Cut to Paradise #4

Imam Baqir (a.s.) says: One who sits quietly after each mandatory prayer and recites 3
times the following , Allah will pardon all his sins.

I seek forgiveness from the Lord (testifying) There is no God other than Him The Living
and the Everlasting Of Majesty and Splendour And I turn to Him In Repentence!

“Astaghfarallah allazi la ilaha illa huwal hayyal qayyumo zuljalal e wal ikraame wa aatube ilaihi”

Short Cut to Paradise #3

Imam Mohammed Baqir (a.s.) has said:
After every mandatory prayer, there is no better invocation than the Tasbeeh of Fatima (a.s.)

Imam Jafar e Sadiq (a.s) has said that reciting the Tasbeeh of Fatima (a.s.) after every compulsory prayer is better than performing a thousand genuflections

Allaho Akbar (34 times)
ALhamdulillah (33 times)
Subhan Allah (33 times)

Short Cut to Paradise #2

Imam Ja’far ibne Muhammad as-Sadiq (peace be upon him) has said:

Reciting the Qur’an from the pages of the Qur’an (meaning to look at it and recite it – not from memory), lightens the punishment of one’s mother and father, even if they are both disbelievers.”

“One who sends 10 salawat upon the Prophet and his Family, Allah and the angels send 100 salawat upon him, and the one who sends 100 salawat upon the Prophet and his Family, then Allah and the angels send 1000 salawat upon him.”
